Expand-A-Form: Frequently Asked Questions
Product Overview
What exactly is Expand-A-Form? Expand-A-Form is a high-strength, ribbed expanded metal form for concrete projects. Specifically, we design these stay in place panels to replace traditional wood or plywood forms. Consequently, builders enjoy a more durable and economical alternative for complex pours.
What standard sizes do you offer for these panels? Our standard sheets typically measure 27-1/8” x 96”. For this reason, each sheet will cover about 18 square feet. However, we also provide custom widths and special lengths. Therefore, you can order exactly what your specific fabrication requires.
What other widths do your Expanded Metal Concrete Form Sheets come in? They are available in 4″, 8″, 12″, 16″, 20″, 24″, and 28″.
Where do you manufacture your products? We manufacture every panel in our central facility in St. Louis, MO. Because of this central location, we can offer fast shipping to customers across the country. As a result, your project stays on schedule without long lead times.
Technical & Installation
How do I properly install Expand-A-Form panels? Installation follows a process similar to plywood but moves much faster. First, place the panel ribs perpendicular to your supports. Next, fasten the panels every 8″ along those supports. Finally, ensure you overlap the ends by 2″ to 3″ to maintain a secure seal.
Do I need special tools for cutting or fabrication? Fortunately, you do not need any specialized equipment. Instead, you can use a circular saw with a metal blade or simple tin snips. Because the material is versatile, a small cutting torch also works well for quick adjustments on-site.
What concrete slump mix works best with these forms? In most cases, we recommend a slump mix of 3″ to 4″. Nevertheless, you can use up to a 6″ slump if you provide proper bracing. This flexibility allows you to adapt to different ambient temperatures and support spacing.
Applications & Benefits
What are the primary uses for stay-in-place forms? Our forms excel in bulkheads, pile caps, and grade beams. Furthermore, they are perfect for blindside walls and thrust blocks. Because the forms stay in the concrete, they are ideal for areas where removing wood is impossible.
Why should I choose Expand-A-Form over traditional wood? Our metal panels are significantly lighter and easier to handle. Moreover, you completely eliminate the high costs of stripping and cleaning forms. Since the material remains in place, you save both labor time and disposal fees.
Does your company offer a product warranty? Yes, we stand behind the quality of every panel. We guarantee that our products remain free of material defects. If a product fails to meet standards within one year, we will provide a replacement or a full refund.
